The new Armenian cargo airline Veteran Avia chooses ADSoftware

ADSoftware is proud to announce that Veteran Avia, the newly formed Armenian airline has selected ADSoftware’s aviation dedicated software AIRPACK to manage its cargo fleet which operates worldwide.

To assist its expansion plans, the cargo airline Veteran Avia has seen the need for a powerful maintenance software to manage its expanding number of aircraft, bases and stocks. The objective was to find a provider capable of offering both guarantees for reliability and simplicity. The French software developer and publisher ADSoftware has been chosen because of its proven implementation methodology and track record worldwide. An agreement has been signed on May 2012.

Together with Rayyan Air in Pakistan, Veteran Avia is part of the Aerospace Consortium FZE. The UAE based aviation group is focused on aircraft leasing, with fleet of Eastern and Western aircraft specialising in wet lease of both fixed and rotor wing aircraft. Short and long term solutions are provided as well as operation in risky areas and excess cargo aircraft capacity. Veteran Avia was only created in June 2010 in Yerevan – Armenia and operates three B747- 200F and three IL-7TD6. The rapidly growing cargo airline now has hubs in Jedha for two aircraft operated for Saudia airline for Africa and North Europe and one in Sharjah operated in Charter between UAE, Kuwait and Pakistan.

The coordination between Veteran Avia’s project management and ADSoftware engineering team has maintained the focus and the objectives. ADSoftware has already started the implementation of its AIRPACK Fleet Management System and Logistics Solutions comprising of AIRTIME (Fleet management- CAMO), AIRSTOCK (Inventory control – Logistic), AIRDOC (Documentation management), AIRUSER (Security management) and AIRSTAT (Reliability and statistic reports).

Veteran Avia is very much aware that the user’s ability and willingness to adopt the new system will depend in part on the type of training they will receive. This has been carefully thought about and a realistic time frame has been scheduled. The training session will very soon start in Sharja – UAE. ADSoftware will provide an instructor on site for five days. This session will focus primarily on AIRSTOCK (stock inventory, purchase orders, receipts, repairs, provisioning requests…). Following this training, according to what has been achieved, a second session of six days will be planned. Fred Ulrich says “We really believe in a flexible approach and a case to case scenario in terms of training. From experience, this approach is comfortable for users and allows a quicker and greater achievement”

Swiss International Air Lines now using AMOS for its entire aircraft fleet

Entire SWISS fleet now managed in AMOS

“Having a complete technical overview of all SWISS data in AMOS has reduced the complexity of the fleet management while significantly increasing cost transparency,” states Peter Wojahn, Chief Technical Officer of SWISS.

Before the in-sourcing process was finalised, SWISS managed only the Avro and A330 fleet in-house. SWISS has now taken over the responsibility for 84 instead of the 32 aircraft so far. This also means that SWISS relies heavily on AMOS in its full extent to cope with the significant strategic change.

Managing the 84 aircraft and more to come will now be the daily business of SWISS Technical Services.

Project “Manumea“ successfully completed

Project “Manumea” was launched by SWISS to in-source its Part M and Line Maintenance activities from an external MRO provider. Now SWISS Technical Services is responsible for the entire fleet including the A320 and A340 aircraft. After months of preparation, the transfer of services from the 3rd party MRO provider to SWISS Technical Services took place successfully in April 2012. Since the SWISS MRO data for the A320 and A340 aircraft was historically kept in the maintenance provider’s system, the data was transferred into AMOS in the context of the Manumea project. Several working groups with assigned tasks ensured that AMOS quickly came up to speed in managing the complete SWISS fleet. The data transfer, as in most projects, was the major hurdle to overcome. The main challenge was that the data in the legacy ERP system was structured differently to that of a typical MRO software. However, the project team, supported by Swiss-AS experts, solved this issue successfully and this guaranteed that the go-live was on time.

About Swiss International Air Lines

Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) is Switzerland’s national airline, serving 70 destinations in 37 countries from Zurich, Basel and Geneva and carrying some 15 million passengers a year with its 90-aircraft fleet. The company’s Swiss WorldCargo division provides a comprehensive range of airport-to-airport airfreight services for high-value and intensive-care consignments to about 120 destinations in over 80 countries. As the airline of Switzerland, SWISS embodies the country’s traditional values, and is committed to delivering the highest product and service quality. With its workforce of some 7,600 personnel, SWISS generated total operating income for 2011 of CHF 4.9 billion. SWISS is part of the Lufthansa Group, and is also a member of Star Alliance, the world’s biggest airline grouping.

Conduce Software win eTechlog contract

Conduce Software & Thomas Cook Airlines

Conduce Software are delighted to announce that we have been awarded a contract by Thomas Cook Airlines to provide hosting and support services for their CAA approved Electronic Techlog and Electronic Flight Bag (ETL/EFB). The contract runs for three years with the work to transition the support and service taking with immediate effect.

The current ETL/EFB solution has been in place with Thomas Cook for a number of years, but when the current provider expressed their desire to exit from the EFB market last year Conduce Software were well positioned to take over the service having already been contracted by Thomas Cook to develop iPad data acquisition software for their pilots. Conduce Software were selected from three tendering companies and have been working with the current provider to ensure there is a relatively seamless transition of service and that licenses are in place to grant usage of the various patents and intellectual property behind the solution.

What is an electronic Techlog?

All flights are required by law to be recorded in the aircraft’s technical logbook. This log details where the aircraft flew from and to and the aircraft utilisation, namely for how long it was flying and how many landings it made. This data is essential to schedule maintenance and safety inspections for the aircraft. A copy of each logbook page is required to remain on the aircraft with a copy staying on the ground at the last destination and another copy being sent back to base. The use of paper of course has its issues and airlines have sought to replace antiquated paper, post and fax systems with more up to date electronic systems. The ETL system in use by Thomas Cook does exactly this. Each aircraft is equipped with a ruggedized laptop installed with the ETL software to record all the data normally entered onto a paper logbook and this data is synchronised after each flight with a centralised server. That uploaded data is then transferred to the airline’s maintenance system for processing and analysis. The solution in use by Thomas Cook also provides a number of additional tools for the pilot and line engineers and is known collectively as an electronic flight bag partially replacing the bulky black bags filled with paper charts and manuals that most pilots use.

Conduce Director Wayne Enis said: “As well as providing service and support for Thomas Cook for the existing systems we will be developing and enhancing the ETL software. At present the software only works on PC based laptops, but we would like to offer potential customers the option to choose whatever platform they wish. There is a new Windows operating system being launched later this year, so preparing the software to work with Windows 8 is an obvious first step, but converting the software to work on iPads or Android tablets is an obvious next step and one we are already working towards.”

Thomas Cook General Manager for Line Maintenance Rob Woods is looking forward to seeing how a small company like Conduce Software can differentiate themselves from larger companies who are normally in the EFB arena. “We have been working with Conduce for some time on a number of smaller software projects and we have been very pleased with their ability to react and meet our requirements. I am confident in their ability to be nimble and provide innovative solutions to complex aircraft maintenance problems and that this can be scaled up for a project like this.”
