ADSoftware Increases Footprint in African Aviation Market

ADSoftware Increases Footprint in African Aviation Market

With the signature of South African Airbus operator Global Airways, ADSoftware announces that AirPack solution is now one of the leading MRO software solutions on the African market.

ADSoftware’s presence in the African aviation industry started in 2003 when the French aviation software developer and publisher was selected to provide its flagship AirPack maintenance software by Air Austral in  Reunion Island. Seeing the growing potential of the African aviation, in 2009 the company decided to open a new office in South Africa through its local partner, Hi-Fly Marketing. To date ADSoftware has increased its footprint on the African continent by signing 16 operators, spanning right across the continent from countries like Algeria, Morocco, Ivory Coast, Botswana, Mauritania, Sudan, Mali, Gabon, Nigeria, South Africa, Reunion Island and Burkina Faso to name a few.

The AirPack solution developed by ADSoftware was one of the first maintenance application on the market to offer an innovative MRO ERP solution suitable for small and medium aviation operators. Ever since, AirPack has proved that powerful solutions don’t have to be complicated and expensive. The accessibility of the system together with the technical support in the implementation and integration phase have been keys to its success in Africa. The flexibility and pricing structure of the package allows fleets that are as small as 2 aircraft to as large as 30 aircraft to benefit from the system.

By delivering superior business solutions through enhanced and automated functions within the AirPack MRO solution, ADSoftware has attracted offshore helicopters operators, national airlines and leasing companies into supporting their expansion and fleet modernisation.

In December 2008, Air Botswana signed a deal with ATR for two 68-seat advanced turbo propeller aircraft ATR 72–500 worth US$37 million. The aircraft were delivered in March 2009 and integrated into AirPack in 2011 when the national airline decided to proactively implement a framework of internal controls over its maintenance department as part of its continuing efforts to adopt global best practices.

In 2013, the newly launched national carrier Air Côte d’Ivoire selected ADSoftware’s fleet management system and logistics solutions to support its modern fleet of Airbus A319, thus becoming the first Airbus operator in Africa to select AirPack. “We are aiming to support African airlines in their transition towards operating new generation aircraft. If we include MRO/CAMO fleets, we now handle more than a hundred A320s” confirms Fred Ulrich, ADSoftware’s CEO. Based on its solid experience with this aircraft type, Global Airways a South African lessor that has recently started operating 4 Airbus A320s, decided to sign with ADSoftware.

ADSoftware has equally made breakthroughs in the general aviation industry on the continent. In 2011 Héli-Union selected ADSoftware solution to fulfil the requirements of its worldwide MRO activity. Héli-Union is a key international player in the offshore helicopter transport business with a fleet of 30 helicopters spread over Africa. The African fleet includes a mix of Eurocopter AS365, Sikorsky S-76 and Eurocopter EC225. Early 2014, Moroccan and French helicopter operator, Heliconia decided to implement AirPack to benefit from ADSoftware’s latest Business Intelligence and Data Exchange Technology incorporating Predictive Maintenance applications and Cloud-based hosting. Aero Corporate, a small private and business charter operator based in Ivory Coast has also decided to move its fleet onto the system.

RocketRoute Introduces Real-Time Flight Tracking Service

RocketRoute Introduces Real-Time Flight Tracking Service

Guildford, UK, 22nd August 2014 – RocketRoute introduces Real-Time Flight Tracking for flights in Europe. This new service is available immediately for all paid-members. A free 14 day trial is available for operators and pilots interested in trialing the service.

Real-time flight tracking has become essential for jet operators to follow their charter flights, for airlines to monitor flight schedules and for pilot-owners to keep family and friends informed. With this new service, RocketRoute now brings to members an integrated solution at a highly competitive price – covering flight planning, briefing, filing, dispatch and now tracking.

To deliver this service, RocketRoute interfaces with Eurocontrol and stores ATC aircraft position data. This is then presented as a convenient overlay on top of the planned route showing Scheduled versus Actual Flight paths, times and distances.

Post-flight, an operator or pilot can review their flight track and can quickly identify routing differences that can then be factored into future flights and fueling requirements. RocketRoute also now provides a record of Flight Time and Off-Block Time in one integrated system – ideal for any operator to track and help manage their fleet.

RocketRoute’s future plans are to add flight tracking for more regions of the world and to integrate with leading satellite tracking providers broadening the service to meet worldwide customer needs.

An example flight track by one of RocketRoute’s members is available for review at the following link:

AIR CHINA TO CUT US$8 MILLION IN FUEL COSTS WITH SITA TECHNOLOGY

SITA’s FMS Wind Uplink enables more effective fuel use

One of the world’s largest airlines, Air China, is set to save around US$8 million a year in fuel costs, thanks to payload and live weather update technology from air transport IT specialist, SITA. Following extensive trials on its international routes, Air China has deployed SITA’s FMS Wind Uplink service on all international and domestic routes to constantly update key weather information for Flight Management System (FMS) calculations while en route. This enables the crew to adjust its flight path in-flight according to changing wind and weather conditions, so the aircraft uses fuel as cost effectively as possible.

Lu Yun-Guo, Senior Manager of Operation Technology, Air China, said: “We started trialing SITA’s Wind Uplink service in early 2013 and have already significantly lowered our fuel bills. In just six months, we saved close to US$2 million, and that was with implementation across only part of our fleet. We anticipate that our annual savings across our entire fleet will be in the region of US$8 million. Crew feedback has been excellent as well. I’m proud to say that Air China is the first airline to use this technology in China as part of our continuous innovation efforts.”

With SITA’s Wind Uplink service, the aircraft’s FMS can constantly analyze weather conditions on the route ahead to determine optimum altitude, fuel burn and arrival-time predictions. This helps reduce fuel consumption.

May Zhou, Vice President and General Manager, SITA China, said: “Our work with Air China provides a perfect example of how SITA is constantly innovating to help the air transport industry operate more efficiently and effectively. SITA’s Wind Uplink service will not only reduce Air China’s fuel costs, it will also enhance the safety of the flights by giving early visibility of the potential need to use contingency fuel, or, in the event of a worsening forecast, the need to divert. ”

SITA’s AIRCOM ACARS Services provide the backbone for the automatic Wind Uplink service. SITA has also installed hardware in Air China’s offices to ensure the data provided to the crew is totally under the airline’s supervision.

Air China has around 300 aircraft flying on more than 185 routes around China, Asia and the world. In 2013, it carried 48.7 million passengers, putting it in the top ten global airlines. For the past eight years, Air China has been named the number one Chinese airline in a variety of awards programs, including first in domestic aviation service in the 2013 China’s Most Valuable Brands awards. Air China was also honored at the 2013 China International Forum on Green Development for its outstanding performance in energy saving and emission reduction and its advocacy of green operations.

AIR ASTANA SET FOR FUTURE GROWTH WITH SITA SUPPORT

Air Astana has selected air transport communications and IT specialist, SITA, to provide messaging for operations, communications with partners and advanced datalink for air traffic control. The deal comes as Kazakhstan’s flag carrier prepares for future growth, following a 13.5 percent traffic increase in 2013.

In recent years, Air Astana has expanded rapidly across the CIS and Central Asian regions, becoming the travel provider of choice for many passengers flying to and from the region. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Kazakhstan’s international passenger traffic is growing at 9% annually, making it the second fastest-growing market in the world.[1]

Chamindra Lenawa, Vice President IT & eBusiness, Air Astana, said: “As Air Astana continues its growth, it is important that we have the right infrastructure in place. We use SITA because it offers excellent service quality and global coverage. Most importantly, because SITA is owned and operated by the air transport industry, the SITA team understands and responds to our needs very well.”

Dmitry Krasnov, SITA Vice President of Russia and CIS, said: “We are delighted to help support Air Astana’s expansion in this rapidly growing region. In addition, we are committed to ensuring that both Air Astana and the region have the IT and communications services they need, including developing our VHF and satellite communications network for cockpit datalink applications.”

SITA Type B Messaging underpins every operational aspect of air transport, from commercial and flight operations to ground support, baggage and cargo handling, passenger services, booking availability and aircraft maintenance. SITA operates the largest messaging network, directly connecting to over 2,400 members of the air transport community, switching over 100 million messages every day.

SITA’s AIRCOM Cockpit Datalink applications provide enhanced visibility and management of aircraft communications links and ACARS message content. They also provide operational information during flights, increasing the total benefit of ACARS investment. For example, in addition to the air traffic management datalink, Air Astana is using SITA’s Flight Management System Wind Uplink. This provides key data to the aircraft flight management system for in-flight re-analysis of weather conditions on the route ahead and can deliver savings in the region of 100Kg of fuel per flight in normal conditions. SITA will also provide the relevant back-office network optimization services for both solutions.

SITA is constantly developing its VHF coverage to support the AIRCOM Cockpit Datalink applications. It already has VHF Ground Stations at both Almaty and Astana airports, and will soon have them at Aktau and Atyrau airports, providing the most comprehensive network in the Kazakhstan.
