ADSoftware successfully implements AirPack in Asia; Thai Express Air & City Airways
ADSoftware, one of the leading international aviation software firms, is pleased to announce the successful implementation of their AirPack maintenance and logistics system for two more airlines in Thailand; City Airways and Thai Express Air.
ADSoftware’s presence in the Asian aviation industry began in 2006 when the French MRO* software specialist partnered with Aviation Engineering & Planning Services (AEPS), for the exclusive distributorship of AirPack in the Middle East and Asia. Together they have signed 11 operators on the Asian continent in countries like Thailand, Laos and Myanmar.
AEPS has provided on-site B2B training and support for City Airways and Thai Express Air, to facilitate the software installation phase. The cargo airline, Thai Express Air currently operates a single B737-300(F), while low cost carrier (LCC), City Airways is operating a B737-400 and 1 B737-800. The Don Mueang based LCC offers domestic flights as well as regional flights to popular destinations like Hong Kong and China.
Commenting on the successful launch of the AirPack solution for the two airlines, the CEO of ADSoftware Fred Ulrich said, “Our principle is to get as close to the customer’s needs as possible, while meeting the highest possible standard of regulatory compliance and cost effectiveness”.
AEPS Administrative & IT Director also commented, “We have been implementing the AirPack suite for several years now to meet the airworthiness needs of our customers. The fact that we can easily customize the software to generate the information at the customer’s request makes AirPack our software of choice”.

IFS demonstrates in-memory capabilities for IFS Applications 9
IFS demonstrates in-memory capabilities for IFS Applications 9
IFS announces plans to deliver an in-memory optimised update to IFS Applications 9 in 2015
IFS, the global enterprise applications company, announces its plans for in-memory capabilities at IFS World Conference in Boston. Real-world scenarios using real-time data analysis in IFS Applications™ were run thousands of times faster through the use of in-memory database technology.
IFS’s in-memory database technology brings companies closer to their businesses by allowing speedy analysis and reporting of transactional data rather than of data stored in warehouses, which is only updated periodically. It also supports IFS’s strategy to use visualisation and analysis built into processes and tasks in the application to improve transparency and decision making on every level of the organisation.
As part of the in-memory offering, IFS also revealed IFS In-Memory Advisor™- a new tool designed to help customers apply in-memory technology to the areas of IFS Applications where it will yield maximum effect. The in-memory offering will be included in an update to IFS Applications 9 planned to ship in the fourth quarter of 2015.
By applying the in-memory capabilities, many analytical queries go from taking minutes to fractions of a second.
“The benefits of in-memory kick in when you have about a million records in a table, with the greatest effect seen when you are processing hundreds of millions of records,” IFS CTO Dan Matthews said. “The speed of narrow analytical queries can be increased by hundreds or thousands of times, whereas broader queries might increase by a factor of up to ten, and some are not affected at all. Using real customer data, we see compression ratios ranging from 3:1 to 10:1, so you need much less memory than the data occupies on disk.”
The memory need is further reduced by IFS’s evolutionary approach to in-memory databases. Rather than constantly storing the entire database in-memory, which is not necessary or especially beneficial, IFS has developed IFS In-Memory Advisor. Designed and delivered as part of the IFS in-memory offering, IFS In-Memory Advisor helps customers apply in-memory technology only to those parts of IFS Applications that it will offer the most significant benefits. This ensures the optimal balance of using in-memory where beneficial while leaving the rest of the data on a less expensive disk.
“IFS has always believed in evolution rather than revolution. We believe in offering in-memory capabilities to our customers on their own terms. We are not forcing them to throw out their existing databases and skills, go through a major upgrade, or repurchase their IFS Applications user licenses,” Dan Matthews continued.

Arconics shortlisted for the Aviation Innovation Award
Arconics shortlisted for the Aviation Innovation Award
Arconics are delighted to be shortlisted for the Irish Aviation Authority Aviation Industry Awards 2015 in the category of Aviation Innovation for its AeroDocs EFB content management product.
Arconics set about extending its AeroDocs product as a solution for flight crews to becoming one key element of a complete nose-to-tail e-Enablement platform, on which several mobile applications could be installed – for flight crews, cabin crews, passengers, engineers and airline management and administrative staff.
The first customer of the expanded platform was Aer Lingus, an airline with a long tradition of IT innovation.
With results such as lower costs, reduced timescales, reduced workload, improved audit compliance and better staff awareness, both Aer Lingus and Arconics consider the project a great success given the high level of acceptance from flight crews within Aer Lingus.
Further, the regulator has allowed Aer Lingus to remove paper copies of manuals from the aircraft, saving some 35-40kg per aircraft, per flight –a significant weight and hence cost saving for the airline.
Such was the success of the platform, in 2014 it was purchased by Cathay Pacific Airways, the flag carrier of Hong Kong.
Arconics will also announce another customer for the platform in June 2015 – a top-tier and one of the fastest growing airlines in the world with some of the newest aircraft flying today.

IFS announces global availability of IFS Managed Cloud on Microsoft Azure
IFS announces global availability of IFS Managed Cloud on Microsoft Azure
Customers can now benefit from a fully managed, single-tenant cloud offering where IFS will manage the cloud infrastructure, operating system, database, middleware, and IFS Applications
IFS, the global enterprise applications company, announces the global availability of IFS Applications™ as a fully managed service on Microsoft Azure. IFS Managed Cloud on Microsoft Azure, which was revealed today at IFS World Conference 2015, offers customers a flexible and cost-effective way to benefit from IFS Applications.
Optimised for IFS Applications versions 8 and 9, IFS Managed Cloud is a security-enhanced single-tenant cloud within the world-class Azure environment. Customers can decide how and when changes are made to IFS Applications, specify maintenance and upgrades to suit their business needs. The offering enables a company’s internal IT staff to focus on supporting business requirements rather than administrative maintenance and upgrades.
“IFS Managed Cloud marks a major milestone in our company’s history as it offers our customers a new set of options for deploying, running, and using our solutions,” IFS CTO Dan Matthews said. “We have designed IFS Managed Cloud to provide flexibility, improved security, and reliability at a level that would be very expensive to achieve in any on-premise installation. Coupled with the layered application architecture of IFS Applications 9 and the ability to utilise Azure’s global network of data centres, we are offering a truly future-proof cloud solution that reduces complexity, risk, and cost.”
“While more and more companies are turning to the cloud to increase speed and reduce costs, it is important to remember that not all solutions are equal,” said Vibhor Kapoor, Director of Product Marketing, Microsoft Azure. “Improved security, global availability, and the ability to integrate with companies’ existing IT assets are also important factors for cloud adoption. IFS Managed Cloud on Microsoft Azure taps into these capabilities in an ideal way to allow organisations to utilise the power of the cloud.”
