Aug 31, 2016 – Cambodian carrier Sky Angkor Airlines opts for mobile navigation charts
Lufthansa Systems today announced that Sky Angkor Airlines has opted for its Lido/mPilot mobile navigation solution as well as the paper-based charts of Lido/RouteManual. The two companies signed a five-year contract for the solution at the start of this year. Lido/RouteManual is already in use, the mobile navigation solution will be operational this fall.
“We were convinced by the comprehensive functionality of the Lido/mPilot navigation app, and by its reliability,” said Captain Gorazd Cerne, Training Manager at Sky Angkor Airlines. “By selecting Lufthansa Systems, we have opted for a new IT solution providing us the content and function we need by a reasonable price. We look forward to developing our successful partnership together with Lufthansa Systems.”
Lido/mPilot is a mobile navigation solution which supports pilots before, during and after a flight. Around 60 airlines have already decided to deploy Lido/mPilot since the app was launched in early 2015. The modular app offers features such as airport maps, a dynamically generated enroute chart, and a document management and distribution system that enables pilots to access documents and messages both at home and on the move.
Layout, colors and symbols are identical in the charts´ paper and electronic versions. They comprise navigation charts for take-off and landing procedures as well as airport and route charts including all important route information like altitude and airport data. These charts are generated directly from the Lido navigation database, which includes worldwide aeronautical information and topographical data.
“We are delighted to have Sky Angkor Airlines as a new customer in the Asia/Pacific region. This agreement also highlights the growing importance of digitization in the airline industry,” said Tom Vandendael, Senior Vice President Regional Management Asia/Pacific.
Sky Angkor Airlines is a regional Asian carrier based at Siem Reap International Airport in Cambodia. Established in 2011, the airline has a fleet of five aircraft serving destinations in several countries including Japan, China, Korea and Vietnam.

Garuda Indonesia signs with Sabre for end-to-end Operations and Crew Technology Platform to support growth strategy
Sabre technology to power connected airline operations, improving airline profitability and customer experience as Garuda pushes international expansion
SINGAPORE – August 31 2016 – Garuda Indonesia, the national carrier for Indonesia, has selected an end-to-end suite of operations and crew technologies from the Sabre AirCentre Enterprise Operations portfolio, making Sabre Corporation (NASDAQ: SABR) its primary airline operations technology provider.
Sabre Airline Solutions’ Operations and Crew Technology Platform will enhance Garuda’s aircraft tracking, disruption control and prevention, and crew management operations.
By improving information exchange across multiple airline functions and operations, the suite creates a rich set of centralised data and insights. This supports common situational awareness across airline teams – optimising daily operations, enabling better decision making and supporting a more proactive and rapid approach to disruptions. Real-time crew management technology will also improve crew utilisation and quality of life.
“Southeast Asia’s airlines operate in an environment of resource-constrained infrastructure and volatile weather conditions. We are working with carriers in the region to create a more connected airline that can optimise operations regardless of these regional challenges,” commented Dasha Kuksenko, vice president and regional general manager for Sabre Airline Solutions, Asia Pacific. “Using more flexible, reliable and scalable technology, Garuda will improve crew and fleet utilisation and safety, drive operational efficiencies and introduce quicker schedule recovery – ensuring a better and more consistent traveller experience.”
Vice President Corporate Communications for Garuda Indonesia, Benny Butarbutar, added that Sabre’s technology will support the airlines’ growth plans. “Sabre’s enterprise operations solutions will give us a far more sophisticated approach to managing our operations, crew and the impact of disruptions. This in turn will help us improve profitability and drive customer loyalty. As we pursue further international network growth, which is critical to our long-term strategy, the platform will also help us streamline operations across multiple geographies,” said Benny.
Garuda recorded a 13.4 percent increase in ‘Available Seat Kilometers’ in 1Q20161. In the last year alone, it has launched new routes to China, recorded capacity expansion to Saudi Arabia – by operating new route, direct flight from Jakarta to Medina, and more than doubled its European operation – including the addition of a strategic London Heathrow route connecting passengers to thousands of onward destinations through the Skyteam Alliance.
“The Sabre AirCentre technology uses services based systems and workflows that are highly scalable and adaptable for integration with any other Sabre or third party technology. It’s this flexibility that enables far more effective information sharing across an airlines’ operations – from aircraft tracking to crew management and rostering,” added Kamal Qatato, vice president for Sabre Airline Solutions.
The airline and crew technology suite that Garuda Indonesia has selected from the Sabre AirCentre Enterprise Operations portfolio includes: Sabre AirCentre Movement Manager; Sabre AirCentre Recovery Manager Ops; and Sabre AirCentre Crew Manager, which is complemented by crew pairing and rostering optimisation capabilities from Sabre technology partner AD OPT, a division of KRONOS.

At a glance
– All except one airline of Avianca Holdings are now live in AMOS
– Multi-Entity functions of AMOS being a USP
Series of successful go-lives
Swiss-AS, in cooperation with Lufthansa Systems Americas, is pleased to announce the recent series of go-lives of the Avianca Holdings Airlines. This significant implementation of AMOS across the whole group started in 2013 and AMOS is now used by 7 subsidiaries of Avianca Holdings in Central and South America. Only Avianca Ecuador remains to cut over and will do so soon to complete the whole group.
Profiting from AMOS Multi-Entity functions
The AMOS multi-entity functions have been designed for airline groups/holdings which intend to share one AMOS productive environment while still keeping the financial data of each entity of the group separate. Thanks to the AMOS multi-entity functions the individual subsidiaries of Avianca Holdings are able to track their own financial data, in one common AMOS environment and are thereby compliant with EASA, FAA and local rules. Also, the AMOS multi-entity functions allows simplified intercompany transactions between the different Avianca entities, such as the selling, loaning or exchange of parts.
The maintenance, and multi-entity functions of AMOS including the multi-operator maintenance program allow this large airline group to harmonize processes, to have full transparency of data regarding all members of the group and to centrally manage all engineering and maintenance activities of each group member.
“Avianca aims to operational excellence as a differentiating element of its competitive strategy by optimizing processes and using the best technology available. AMOS is a tool that has streamlined the use of resources and time in the maintenance execution of the entire fleet of Avianca Holding.” states Miguel Montoya, Technical VP at Avianca Holdings.

AeroMod begins equipping Philippine Airlines A321 aircraft; returns newly wireless IFE-equipped aircraft every day
Melbourne, FL and Geneva –19 August 2016 – AeroMod International and SITAONAIR today jointly announce a partnership to install SITAONAIR wireless inflight entertainment (IFE) services on Philippine Airlines. The rapid installation program will see AeroMod International deploy a consistent cabin experience across Philippine Airlines fleet and implement the systems in record time.
This industry leader in avionics and airplane structural modification and repair services commenced installation of the SITAONAIR wireless IFE system on Philippine Airlines’ Airbus A321 fleet in July. Under the program, Philippine Airlines will have one wireless IFE-installed aircraft returned to service every day.

“This agreement with a worldwide aircraft connectivity leader such as SITAONAIR capitalizes on our growth to provide operational support to customers around the world,” says AeroMod President Gary Girard.
Market analysis by AeroMod reveals that only 13 percent of non-U.S. airlines have wireless IFE fully deployed. Despite this, a recent SITA survey of passengers worldwide showed IFE is now more commonly consumed via Wi-Fi on a personal device, rather than on the aircraft’s seat-back screen (46% vs 44%, with 10% using both). Additionally, two thirds (65%) of passengers would choose to access it via their own devices if wireless IFE was available.

Improving the customer experience is a key driver for commercial airlines, and wireless IFE systems allow a wide range of content to be made available directly to passengers’ personal devices. SITAONAIR’s system delivers reliability and cost savings as well as easy installation and maintenance. Now with AeroMod rapid installations, these products can be rolled out across an entire airline’s fleet in a matter of weeks. All combine to make an especially appealing fit for airlines.
“86 percent of passengers take a smartphone onto a plane and they would prefer to also use them to access IFE. These networks therefore need to be highly robust in order to deliver HD quality video to all passengers,” said David Lavorel, CEO of SITAONAIR. “AeroMod has an enviable track record for installations that are both of exceptional quality and are turned around quickly, getting the planes back in the air as soon as possible.”
AeroMod relocated its corporate headquarters to Orlando Melbourne International Airport in April. Its new 114,000-square-foot site takes advantage of Melbourne’s position as the fastest growing aviation and aerospace manufacturing center in the United States.
“Our new facility was designed to offer connectivity and IFE installations significantly faster than other MROs,” says Girard. “To prevent fleet-planning disruption, we can also adapt to customers’ needs and send a qualified team to the customer’s chosen location, anywhere in the world, as we have been doing for Philippines Airlines.”
Philippine Airlines is the national carrier of the Philippines, operating in over 40 international and over 30 domestic destinations. Its key focus areas are flight route network expansion, fleet modernization and service innovation. PAL aims to achieve five-star rating in five years by implementing key initiatives anchored on the branding philosophy Heart of the Filipino.

Asiana Airlines Introduces a New Generation in Technical Documentation
Asiana Airlines Introduces a New Generation in Technical Documentation
Lufthansa Industry Solutions implements the new S1000D industrial standard in the DocManage product suite / One system for all older and newer types of aircraft
Hamburg/Norderstedt, 13 July 2016 – Asiana Airlines has given Lufthansa Industry Solutions the assignment of introducing a comprehensive new generation in the technical documentation of its aircraft fleet. To this end, the IT service provider is implementing the new S1000D industrial standard into the DocManage product suite, the document library and job cart solution from Lufthansa Industry Solutions for aircraft maintenance and overhaul.
Using this MRO solution from Lufthansa Industry Solutions, Asiana Airlines can manage the technical documentation of all older and newer types of aircraft in its fleet with a single system. The DocManage update is linked to the upgrade of the document library to DocSurf Mobile and is expected to be completed by the time Asiana commissions the A350 in March 2017.
“We use DocManage now for more than ten years. It is an important software for our maintenance which is used by 1,000 users daily”, said Sang-Youel Lee, Manager Maintenance Administration, Asiana Airlines. “Based on the successful cooperation with Lufthansa Industry Solutions and the functionality of the product we have decided for the
product upgrade. We are now looking forward to make use of the new technology and functionality. This will further increase the benefit for our maintenance.”
The reason for this comprehensive modernization is that the exchange of technical documentation between the aircraft manufacturer and the MRO operation for newer types of aircraft, such as the Airbus A350, no longer follows the familiar standards of SGML-based and revised manuals, such as AMM (Aircraft Maintenance Manual) or IPC (Illustrated Parts Catalog), but the newer S1000D industrial standard instead. This new standard requires a completely different treatment with regard to processing and software when it comes to documenting aircraft maintenance. The documentation is no longer organized in manuals, but rather in a large number of independent data modules with entirely new XML content structures.
Lufthansa Industry Solutions has been distributing successful IT solutions for the technical documentation of aircraft maintenance and overhaul for more than a decade in the form of its DocManage product suite. One of the major international customers for this system is Asiana Airlines, which has been using DocManage as a solution for technical documentation and creating operating sheets since 2004.
