SaudiGulf Airlines Selects Rusada’s Envision™ Technology

Start-up airline becomes Rusada’s 12th customer in the Middle East region

DAMMAM, SAUDI ARABIA, July 27th 2017 –
Envision™, the leading Aviation Maintenance and Engineering technology suite from Rusada, has been chosen by SaudiGulf Airlines following a competitive selection process.
The airline, which launched daily flights between Dammam, Jeddah, Riyadh and Abha in October 2016, will use the Envision suite to support their CAMO (Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation), line maintenance, materials management and quality and safety management functions across their operation.

Announcing the deal, Rusada CEO Julian Stourton said “SaudiGulf Airlines are committed to providing the highest quality and safety standards for their customers. In delivering that commitment, they wanted to partner with a vendor who they could work within the long-term as well as one who offered a technology platform that met their requirements”.

SaudiGulf, the Kingdom’s newest carrier, currently operates a fleet of Airbus A320s with Bombardier C300s on order, and has an agreement in place to expand its long-haul network by working with Boeing to support the airlines wide body requirements.

Julian continued, “From a standing start, SaudiGulf has had a hugely successful launch phase and has an ambitious vision and growth plan. Our Envision solution is specifically engineered to be flexible, quick to deploy and scalable and SaudiGulf’s selection of our suite is a further endorsement of these credentials.”

Already one of the leading providers of engineering and maintenance technology solutions globally, the project with SaudiGulf Airlines makes Envision one of the most widely deployed solutions across the Middle-East.

Julian concluded, “SaudiGulf becomes Rusada’s 12th customer in the Middle East region and joins an active community of aviation organisations who use our technology and actively contribute to the ongoing development of our solution roadmap”.

Teledyne Signs New Joint Marketing Agreement with ASG to Create Seamless Solution for EFB Power and Connectivity

Teledyne Signs New Joint Marketing Agreement with ASG to Create Seamless Solution for EFB Power and Connectivity

JUL 25, 2017 –
Teledyne Controls and Avionics Support Group, Inc. (ASG) have signed a joint marketing agreement to promote Teledyne’s Aircraft Interface Device (AID) solution, GroundLink® AID+, with ASG’s proven range of patented Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) mounting and power devices to deliver a complete connectivity solution.

ASG’s range of mounts support several different sized cradles and allow users to select whichever tablet they choose for their EFB hardware. The company is the FAA PMA-approved OEM of the Constant Friction Mount (cfMount™), currently used by some of the world’s largest airlines.

Teledyne Controls’ GroundLink® AID+ enables airlines to connect tablets to the GroundLink® Comm+ unit, for all flight phases, wired, or wirelessly via the AID+ Wireless Access Point (WAP).

Murray Skelton, Director of Business Development and Strategy at Teledyne Controls, sees advantage in delivering a complete ‘package’: “Between the two companies, airlines can now power and charge commercial tablets and crew devices and connect those devices inflight with an aircraft’s existing onboard data systems to significantly enhance the management and the exchange of information between the aircraft, flight crew and the ground.”

Hugo L. Fortes, Vice President of Avionics Support Group added: “By teaming with Teledyne and its GroundLink® AID+, it provides our customers with a world class connectivity solution starting with our patented EFB cfMount™ and Power/Ethernet solution right through the ability to tap aircraft data for cockpit applications.”

The GroundLink® Comm+ unit, which has been typically used for automated download of flight data and later for electronic distribution of software parts and databases across the fleet, can also provide complete AID capability, by utilizing its on-ground 3G/4G IP connectivity for updating Electronic Flight Bags (EFBs) and crew devices, while also providing interfaces to aircraft data and communications systems such as the FMS and ACARS, as well as Broadband SatCom.

The ACARS proxy in particular allows multiple EFBs to send and receive ACARS messages, supporting pilots with ground and air Flight Operations communications, as well as the distribution of flight documents and load sheets.

Crucially, the technology provides AID functionality without having to install a separate AID unit. And with more than 10,000 GroundLink® units already flying, it is an easy transition for those with the technology already installed, protecting their legacy investment.

“The technology not only helps to coordinate and manage information across tablets, but it also provides on-aircraft data storage, eliminates manual data entry errors, and provides internet access while on the ground,” Murray added.

The latest announcement reflects a move by an increasing number of airlines to equip their flight crew with either Windows-based tablets or Apple iPads for use as EFBs, and supply the maintenance and ground crews with devices for use as Electronic Technical Logs (eTechLog).

Intelligent ETOPS Flight Planning through skybook

Intelligent ETOPS Flight Planning through skybook

Extended-range Twin-engine Operational Performance Standards – or ETOPS for those in the know, requires a different approach when it comes to flight planning and crew briefing.

Air crew need to understand not only the routes and sectors they are flying but also the ETOPS entry and exit points, ETOPS alternates, Equal Time Points, ETOPS Rule Time and much more.

Preparing this level of detail is very time consuming for dispatchers, who can find themselves going from system to system gathering the required data and manually plotting the relevant charts. Thankfully, we have the answer to this constant challenge and it saves a lot of time.

skybook integrates with existing flight planning systems, including Jeppesen, NavBlue and Lido, automatically generating detailed ETOPS charts by extracting data from each submitted flight plan.

It uses the route specific information within the flight plan to import data from other sources including the UK MET Office, EUROCONTROL, NOAA and ICAO SADIS.  This allows skybook to generate ETOPS route specific charts that include all of the standard ETOPS related items such as range rings and ETPs, but also layers of information such as significant weather and upper wind and temperature.

Our ETOPS briefing packs are class leading, delivering all the benefits of skybook’s system integration and automation, removing the hassle previously experienced by dispatch teams having to manually import the information.

skybook delivers the vital ETOPS flight information via a single portal, making it available either as a PDF or electronically for crews to read on the flight deck through our interactive tablet application, saving time and paper in the process.

Isn’t it time you found out more about how skybook could help your operations?

Switching to skybook can help reduce operating costs by:

  • saving time
  • creating more efficient processes
  • improving consistency and accuracy
  • improving accountability
  • creating a more accurate understanding of actual flight performance

Here’s all you need to know about skybook’s intelligent ETOPS flight planning (link)
