SAS selects ClearPath flight optimization service from AVTECH for increased flight efficiency and reduced emissions from every flight
AVTECH Sweden AB (publ) and SAS Scandinavian Airlines System Denmark-Norway-Sweden have today entered into a 2-year agreement for AVTECHs ClearPath service, with an expected start date in January 2024 and an expected total value in the range of 5.0 to 6.5 MSEK dependent on the number of SAS group aircraft and flights operating with the service.

The ClearPath flight optimization service, based on state-of-the-art high-resolution aviation weather forecasting from the Met Office, provides precise and tailored tactical decision support for SAS pilots to improve the efficiency of each individual flight. By providing its flight crews with up-to-date guidance on the most efficient flight altitudes, SAS can take maximum advantage of prevailing winds and temperatures to reduce its overall carbon emissions. In addition, ClearPath also warns of turbulence along the flight path which increases the comfort for all passengers travelling with SAS.
With the ClearPath service, SAS is estimated to be able to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 6,000 tons per year, which is equivalent to the annual emissions of 1,626 Swedes.
“SAS is delighted to announce a strategic partnership with AVTECH, integrating ClearPath into our flight operations. The aviation industry is committed to the net-zero carbon emission goal by 2050. The ClearPath solution with UK Met Office high resolution weather forecast will support SAS pilots to optimize their flight path and consequently reduce carbon emissions. We chose AVTECH ClearPath due its ability to create real value and pilot engagement. Pilots appreciate its simplicity and intuitive interface. We look forward to collaborating with AVTECH to move us towards our common sustainable future.”, says captain Svein Erik Jackwitz, SAS Flight operations and Fuel Efficiency.
“We are very happy to welcome SAS onboard as a customer and look forward to taking an active part in SAS journey to become a more sustainable airline. It’s also especially great that SAS, as an airline with roots in Scandinavia, has chosen a Swedish flight optimization service”, says David Rytter, AVTECHs CEO.
About ClearPath
ClearPath is the latest addition to AVTECHs service offering. The service delivers an optimum flight path for each individual flight in real-time. The calculation of the optimum flight path is fully automatic and based on a combination of actual aircraft performance data and tailored high-resolution weather from Met Office UK. This gives the pilots tactical decision support to operate each flight more efficient resulting in up to 3% average reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. ClearPath is delivered as a service that requires no aircraft hardware investments which allows airlines to test it in their operations for free.

Luxembourg Air Ambulance live with AMOS

At a glance
- – Successful implementation project overcoming Covid-19 challenges
- – AMOS 22.12 now live and running on Luxembourg Air Ambulance’s 14-aircraft fleet
- – AMOS Airline edition to adhere to highest safety standards while outsourcing operational management of AMOS to Swiss-AS AMOS Operational Services (AOS)
Swiss-AS is pleased to announce the success of our collaboration with Luxembourg Air Ambulance (LAA), a renowned operator of life-saving helicopters. LAA is currently renewing its 14 aircraft fleet, consisting of MD 902 helicopters, Airbus Helicopters H145D3 and Learjet 45 jets, as well as a new Challenger 605, and is now successfully live and running with AMOS 22.12.
Overcoming Challenges and Achieving Milestones
The journey to this achievement was not an easy one, as it involved transitioning from their legacy system to AMOS amidst the challenges and disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. After almost 3 years of project, LAA’s achievement, despite the obstacles and challenges, is a major milestone that we are proud to have been part of.
The AMOS implementation project unfolded with the switch-off of the legacy system and its migration to AMOS, marking a pivotal moment in their operational processes. Since then, the system has been operating successfully with no significant issues reported.

LAA chose the Airline Edition of AMOS, running on the PostgreSQL database, to meet their specific maintenance requirements and ensure the highest standards of safety in their daily operations. They have also outsourced the management of their operations to our AMOS Operational Services (AOS) in order to further enhance their capabilities.
Today, nearly 50 users at LAA are using the new system and its integrated set of standard features. This enables them to efficiently provide line/light and base maintenance services for their own fleet, as well as for any leased equipment, all while adhering to the strictest safety and maintenance standards in the industry.
Swiss-AS applauds Luxembourg Air Ambulance for their dedication to providing the highest level of service to the community and their unwavering commitment to safety, especially during these challenging times. This successful transition to AMOS 22.12 is illustrates our shared vision of excellence in aircraft maintenance and operations.
As we move forward together, Swiss-AS remains committed to providing ongoing support and innovative solutions to help LAA further enhance its capabilities. We look forward to a successful and long lasting partnership with Luxembourg Air Ambulance, contributing to their life-saving efforts not only in Luxembourg but also beyond its borders.
“I am extremely pleased that the introduction of the AMOS software has now been successfully completed thanks to the joint efforts of the entire project team.
