Zurich, Switzerland – 15 January 2015 – Europe’s biggest all-cargo airline Cargolux has signed a contract with aviation software provider Aviaso for the deployment of a comprehensive fuel efficiency solution. With fuel bills reaching 50% of all costs, Cargolux puts a lot of effort in reducing its fuel consumption. The Luxembourg based carrier has invested in a modern freighter fleet of long-range wide-body 747-8F and 747-400F aircraft in order to significantly reduce fuel burn, noise, and emissions. In addition, Cargolux has implemented various fuel saving procedures, and introduced an Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) solution to reduce weight, increase overall efficiency, and specifically improve fuel efficiency. With the implementation of the Aviaso/Fuel Efficiency software, Cargolux is aiming to introduce continuous monitoring and verification of its fuel conservation program and further refine its fuel saving processes.

“Traditionally, Cargolux puts a lot of value on fuel saving”, says Marcel Funk, Senior Vice President Flight Operations and Accountable Manager at Cargolux. “In the past decade, we have implemented and refined various fuel saving procedures and we have taken our fuel conservation program to a very good level. However, currently we are lacking the verification and monitoring capability to provide transparency on the results of the fuel saving processes and procedures. We expect the Aviaso software to provide us with the transparency needed. Furthermore, the tool will allow us to identify and quantify further savings potential.”

The fuel efficiency software from Aviaso includes more than 100 ready-made analysis reports. These reports allow an airline to thoroughly understand its fuel consumption and to identify potential fuel savings. Furthermore, the Aviaso solution not only identifies the fuel savings, but also helps to really achieve these savings by rigorously monitoring the various fuel savings initiatives for each and every flight.

“We are excited to work with Cargolux and have another all-cargo airline customer using our software”, says Rudolf Christen, CEO of Aviaso. “Cargolux has a very good understanding of the fuel efficiency topic, and they are at a high level regarding their fuel conservation processes. However, experience clearly shows that old patterns tend to return and savings disappear, if a fuel conservation program is not continuously monitored and verified. We are confident that our software will provide the needed transparency and will support Cargolux in further fuel savings.”
