Webinar Overview

Register to view this On-Demand Webinar (recorded 24th October 2024) to see how airlines around the world, covering 3,000 tails, are utilizing the most accurate aeronautical navigational data to optimize efficiency and safety In-Flight via the FMS and using ARINC 424 records to optimize ground-based software solutions (Flight Planning, Flight Tracking, etc.), TAWS, weather services, avionics systems, simulators, and more, via an overview of the Navigation+ solution from NAVBLUE. As you will see Navigation+ is a core database of constantly updated relevant data (FAA and EASA certified) collected, collated, and analyzed by NAVBLUE teams of experts, and then delivered to airlines, OEMs, and other users via a secure delivery portal on a 28-day AIRAC Cycle basis. You will also see how Navigation+ can be tailored for each customer’s specific data such as routes, procedures and more, and contains over 5 million ARINC 424 records provided by each of the 195 state authorities. Navigation+ ensures users have the most relevant and accurate aeronautical navigation data available including: Enroute – waypoints, airways, airspaces, communications, navaids…; Airports, including runway characteristics – Runways, Gates, Localizer and Glide Slopes…; Procedures – SID, STAR, Approach Holding patterns; Tailored records; and GridMORA. You will also see how the data is used by NAVBLUE to power its own EFB, and integrated OCC solutions.

The Webinar begins with a short overview of Navigation+ and the two other core products that make up NAVBLUE’s Aerodata portfolio: Airport Mapping Database (AMDB) and Airport Obstacle Database (AODB). You will then learn how NAVBLUE’s teams of experts maintain accuracy and data quality daily; before seeing how airlines are optimizing efficiency and safety utilizing the data with FMS use cases, plus how, with ARINC 424 datasets, users can optimize Terrain Awareness and Warning Systems (TAWS); ground-based software such as Flight Planning, Flight Tracking, Flight Data Analysis; plus Simulators, airspace modeling, weather services, and more. Finally, the NAVBLUE team will discuss recent enhancements around new safety data on Airbus aircraft such as TOS2 (Take-Off Surveillance 2), plus how they are future proofing the database for increased data demands.

The Webinar is divided into the following 4 key sections:

  1. An Overview of NAVBLUE’s Supply Aerodata Portfolio:
Firstly the NAVBLUE team will walk you through a brief overview of the three products that make up its Aerodata portfolio:

    – Navigation+
As you will see Navigation+ is a collection of relevant aeronautical navigation information including Enroute (Waypoints, Airways, Airspaces, Communications, Navaids etc.), Airports (Airports, Runways, Runway Characteristics, Gates, Communications, Localizer and Glide Slopes, Terminal Navaids etc.), Procedures (SID, STAR, Approach, Holding Pattern etc.), Tailored records (Company Routes, Tailored Procedures)  and GridMORA.  The solution can be used by airlines, OEMs and any Service providers that may need to use the Navigation Database for different types of usages such as FMS, which is compatible with Honeywell, GE, Thales, Universal and CMC. With the ARINC 424 format the database can also support the TAWS, simulators, ground-based software, airspace modeling, weather services, drones, video games and any other types. Navigation+ also acts as a data source of software which are part of the NAVBLUE Flight Ops Ecosystem, such as N-Flight Planning (N-FP) or our EFB
charting module part of the Mission+ suite, Mission+ MAPS.
    – Airport Mapping Database (AMDB)
The Airport Mapping Database (AMDB) is a Geographic Information System (GIS) database providing the entire layout of an airport (runways, taxiways, parking slots and buildings). As for aircraft compatibility, only Airbus aircraft are supported for now. The AMDB also supports other types of usages like simulators, ground software and the departure management (DMAN). The coverage includes 600+ airports worldwide and is constantly increasing as it is a key enabler for the Airport Moving Map function on EFB or avionics and for the Airbus runway safety functions such as BTV, SURF-A, TOS 2, ROPS, ARA and more.
    – Airport Obstacle Database (AODB)
The NAVBLUE Airport Obstacle Database (AODB) empowers airlines with airport and obstacle data ensuring optimized take-off and landing operations at over 3,000 airports. It is ready-to-use data to develop optimized take-off and landing procedures as well as emergency procedures in the event of engine failure at V1 speed to comply with both regulatory and company requirements, and available for all aircraft types. The data is coming from: Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP), and AIP
amendment or supplement (airport, runway); Published obstacles or, NAVBLUE EASA-certified obstacles; NOTAMs; Terrain model (WorldEM90 / SRTM).

  2. Navigation+ Overview: How NAVBLUE ensure the Consistent and High-Quality Database
Next the Webinar moves onto specifically Navigation+, beginning with how NAVBLUE experts maintain the consistent and high-quality database. As you will see Navigation+ is EASA and FAA certified, as such NAVBLUE has implemented a production process ensuring the highest data quality, as per the industry applicable standards (DO-200). The team of experts is analyzing daily all the relevant aeronautical information publications (AIP, AIP supplements, NOTAMs) to encompass all changes to the NAVBLUE master database in a timely manner. The data is delivered to the customer every AIRAC cycle through the NAVBLUE secure delivery portal in a package format.

  3. Navigation+ Overview: FMS Compatibility and ARINC 424 Data Use Cases
Next you will see use cases on how customers utilize the data with FMS and ARINC 424 use cases.  You will see how FMS compatibility is available for Honeywell, GE, Thales, Universal and CMC (so the database is compatible with Boeing, Airbus, ATR, Embraer and De Havilland – Dash-8 aircraft, as well as helicopters). With the ARINC 424 format the data can also support several use cases, such as TAWS, simulators, ground-based software (e.g. Flight Planning, Aircraft Situational Display, Flight Data Analysis etc.), airspace modeling, weather services, drones, video games etc.

  4. Navigation+ Overview: Recent Developments and Future-Proofing Data Demands
As you will see NAVBLUE are closely working with Airbus Design Office on the new safety functions that can be activated on Airbus aircraft through Navigation+, such as TOS2 (Take-off Surveillance 2). As states are publishing more and more data / procedures (e.g. RNAV, RNP),you will see how NAVBLUE are striving to keep up with this trend and ensure that all new elements are available to customers. As of today, the NAVBLUE database encompasses more than 20 million data elements.

About the Aircraft IT Webinar Series:

Every 2 weeks the Aircraft IT website hosts a different live Webinar, each Webinar hosted by a different IT Vendor. These sessions represent the perfect opportunity to learn about a software solution in a more informal manner and to quickly gain an in-depth knowledge of all the major systems on the market, all from the comfort of your own office or home with no sales pressure.

The IT vendor provides a live software demonstration/masterclass of their solution and explains how it can benefit airlines, MROs, Operators, OEMs, Leasing Companies. Once logged on, online delegates can ask questions via the interactive sections of the Webinar or simply sit back and watch and listen to the demonstration. There are two sessions during the day, each differently times to accommodate all time zones.

Each Webinar session is recorded, and an On-Demand version is then posted back to the Aircraft IT website a few days after the live session to allow you to view the content again with your colleagues. The library of On-Demand Webinar recordings provides an invaluable reference source of Flight Operations software demonstrations from the World’s leading Flight Operations IT Vendors.
